Take steps to reduce your energy use, improve efficiency and help end global warming 

The biggest cause of global warming is the carbon dioxide released when fossil fuels -- such as oil and coal -- are burned for energy. So when you save energy, you fight global warming and save money, too.

Here are some easy steps that you can take to help make a difference:

LIMIT GLOBAL WARMING POLLUTION

Raise your voice. Congress needs to enact new laws that cap carbon emissions and require polluters pay for the global warming gases that they produce. Send a message to your elected officials, letting them know that you will hold them accountable for what they do -- or fail to do -- about global warming.

GREEN JOBS AND CLEAN ENERGY

Choose renewable energy. Pick a Green-e-certified energy supplier that generates at least half of its power from wind, solar energy and other clean sources. If you don't have that option, look at your current electricity bill to see if you are able to support renewable energy in another way.

Offset your carbon footprint. You can make up for your remaining carbon output by purchasing carbon offsets. Offsets represent clean power that you can add to the nation's energy grid in place of power from fossil fuels. Not all offset companies are alike.

DRIVE SMARTER CARS

Choose an efficient vehicle: High-mileage cars such as hybrids and plug-in hybrids use less gas and save money. Over its lifetime, a 40-mpg car will save roughly $3,000 in fuel costs compared with a 20-mpg car. Compare fuel economy performance before you buy.

Drive smart. If all Americans kept their tires properly inflated, gasoline use nationwide would come down 2 percent. A tune-up could boost your miles per gallon anywhere from 4 to 40 percent, and a new air filter could get you 10 percent more miles per gallon.

GREEN HOMES AND BUILDINGS

Weatherize your home or apartment. Heating and cooling consume about 40 percent of energy in the home. Sealing drafts and making sure that your home has adequate insulation are two easy ways to become more energy-efficient. Learn how to take advantage of federal tax credits for energy-efficient home improvements.

Buy energy-efficient appliances. Look for the Energy Star label, which identifies the most efficient appliances.

Replace your light bulbs with compact fluorescent bulbs. Compact fluorescent bulbs (CFLs) last 10 times longer than incandescent bulbs. What's more, CFLs lower your energy bills and keep a half-ton of carbon dioxide out of the air.

BETTER COMMUNITIES AND TRANSPORTATION

Drive less. Choose alternatives to driving such as public transit, biking, walking and carpooling, and bundle your errands to make fewer trips. Choosing to live in a walkable "smart growth" community near a transportation hub will mean less time driving, less money spent on gas and less pollution in the air.

Today, I will discuss a little article about THE POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE IMPACTS TECHNOLOGY HAS ON OUR DAILY LIVES. 

Become very dependent on technology as it plays a very important role in our daily lives. After reading through an interesting article I found online .

realized that the author was correct about technology having both positive and negative impacts as it pertains to the way we communicate. We never really acknowledge the way technology has evolved over the years and how much it has both helped and hurt us. Using the term “hurt” to describe the negative impact of technology may be a bit much, but I think it sums it up rather well. Just think about how technology has made it possible to communicate with people all over the world through email, instant messaging, Skype, social media, etc.

In many ways technology has enabled us to strengthen relationships by keeping in contact with old friends, colleagues, and co-workers. What would we do if we could not find old friends from high school through Facebook? Technology has even provided opportunities for students all over the world to receive an education online, while still maintaining work schedules and family. Students are now able to take webinar courses and attain their degree online just as any student on campus. Isn’t that awesome!

Let’s use our imagination a bit. If the internet, mobile devices, and games were taken away from us, how would we feel? I know many of us would feel like a part of our life is missing due to technology now being a necessity in our everyday life. However, the big question is, does technology take away from interpersonal communication and interactions with our co-workers, peers, and colleagues. How many of you have rather talked to someone through text messaging, email, or social media to avoid a face to face communication? We may not realize it, but in my opinion, being dependent upon technology has only conditioned us to become less social, interactive, and outgoing.

Take a minute to ask yourself, when you go out with a group of friends or even on a date, do you find yourself fiddling or browsing on your phone due to the dullness of the conversation or the lack of interest.  I sure do, and I have heard people refer to this as the security blanket approach. The security blanket approach can be defined as an individual using a source of technology to protect themselves from being interactive with another person or to simply occupy themselves in a situation that is not very interesting. There are many times I find myself going to dinner with friends or my significant other and as soon as there is a moment of silence or the conversation seems boring we instantly result to Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter to fulfill that sense or boredom and/or lack of interest.

With technology playing a significant role in my life as a student, parent, and employee, sometimes I find it rather difficult to engage in a conversation with friends without the use of technology. My friends and I find excitement through watching YouTube videos and listening to music, which then leads to conversation. I have yet to see people engage in conversations the “old fashion” way, without phones, tablets, or computers and that is something that I would like to see more of. I am challenging myself to power my phone off when I am at dinner or hanging out with friends. I also have some challenges for you as the reader.

1. The next time you go to a restaurant or hang out with your friends, observe how many people are occupying their phones, tablets, and/or computers instead of engaging in a conversation. How does that make you feel?

2. While you’re walking to your next meeting, to your office or  to a class across campus, take a look up from your phone and speak to someone you do not know. If you’re an overachiever like myself, don’t be afraid to engage in a conversation.

There is no denying about technology empowering the world in every way possible. Ranging from a little child to a grown up adult, everybody is dependent on science and technology one way or another. According to some people, it’s a bad thing to depend too much on gadgets and computers but in spite of that, we choose to rely on the conveniences of science on a daily basis. On the whole, all minor and major technological up-gradations have helped individuals and offices do multi-tasking with ease. When it comes to the education sector, something of the smilar nature can be seen happening.

Schools and colleges across the world have embraced technology by bringing online school software into the system. Today, technology and education are going hand in hand by providing academic institutes with an easy way to manage and control the system. The traditional methods have started to vanish from the face of earth providing academic institutes with an easy way to not just manage and control schools, but also provide students with interactive technological amenities.

How Have The Methods Of Administration Transformed?

There was a time when principals used to maintain manual book keeping for all kinds of financial transactions and academic records. Admins and teachers had to prepare all important information via the pen and paper approach. School staff had to go through every little detail in order to locate important information on a daily basis. That is not the case anymore because school admins have shifted all important information on the cloud.

Teachers that used to mark attendance through registers are now seen using smartphones for that purpose. Principals who used to print hundreds of handouts and brochures on a daily or weekly basis, can easily circulate important information via the internet portal or the SMS communicator service. Most of the financial records have been automated providing academic institutes with a safe and secure accounts management system.

The digital student archiving system has also made it much easier for admins to locate students in groups or individually via the student ID system. They don’t have to go through stacks of papers or hundreds of excel sheets in order to keep track of a few pupils. Finance department, education department and student enrolment and attendance can all be managed and maintained via cloud-based technology.

How Have The Methods Of Education Changed?

Students of today want easy access to knowledge and for that, schools and colleges have started to use internet, ebooks, tablet computers, projector screens and so on. Teachers that used to give lectures in class are showing children interactive presentations on projector screens. Children that used to carry heavy textbooks have started to read from tablet computers.

Instead of distributing schedule handouts, teachers are posting timetables and date sheets on the internet portal. Students on the other hand, also find it easy to view appraisal reports; result cards and all sorts of information via the internet portal improving the overall methods of education. Students that used to visit shops to buy books have started to download ebooks from the internet.

Because of technology, students have become more productive providing schools and college with greater margin to flourish in the education industry. There is absolutely no problem in admitting that technology and education go hand in hand providing the world of education a chance to be more creative and innovative.
